What Happens To Your Mattress
A mattress is one of the worst things to bury and one of the easiest to pull apart. Almost all of it can be recovered.
Collected Whole
We take it as it is. No need to cut it up, bag it or drag it outside first.
Cover Removed
The fabric cover and quilting are stripped off so the layers inside can be separated.
Layers Separated
Foam, fibre wadding, felt and timber are sorted into their own streams for recovery.
Springs Recovered
The steel spring unit is baled and sent for metal recycling rather than buried.
Council Collection Or Us?
Your council may well be the cheaper route. It is worth knowing the trade off before you decide.
Your council
Every London borough runs a bulky waste service. Charges and waiting times vary, so check yours.
- You take it outside and leave it kerbside
- Waiting times can run into weeks in busy periods
- The collection day is set by them, not by you
- Nobody comes inside to carry it down
A Waste Grab N Go collection
Booked around you, usually within a day or two of calling.
- We come inside and carry it down ourselves
- Same day slots often available
- You pick the day, Monday to Saturday
- Divan bases and frames dismantled if needed
Do Not Leave It On The Pavement
A mattress propped against a wall or left by the bins without a booked collection counts as fly tipping, and councils issue fixed penalty notices for it. It stays your responsibility until somebody licensed takes it away, even if a stranger offers to shift it for cash.
Mattress Removal Questions
Do I need to wrap the mattress first?
No. We collect it as it is and handle the carry ourselves. If it has been stored somewhere damp or you would rather it was covered on the way through the house, mention it when you book and we will bring sheeting.
Will you take it from an upstairs flat?
Yes. Upper floors, tight staircases and buildings without a lift are routine. There is no extra charge for stairs, though it helps to tell us the floor so we send enough people.
Do you take the divan base and frame too?
Yes, and it usually makes sense to do it in the same visit. Divan bases and bed frames are dismantled on the landing if they will not turn on the stairs.
What if the mattress has bed bugs or is badly stained?
We will still take it. Tell us in advance so the team can bag it before it comes through the property and keep it away from the rest of the load. It goes for disposal rather than any form of reuse.
How soon can you collect?
Same day slots are often available, particularly earlier in the week. We collect Monday to Saturday, so most mattresses are gone within a day or two of you getting in touch.
